Michele Frazier Endorsed by Pro-Choice Group Eleanor’s Legacy
Michele Frazier, candidate for New York State Senate District 51, announced today that she has received the endorsement of Eleanor’s Legacy, a non-profit political organization that supports pro-choice Democratic women running for state and local office throughout New York.
“I understand from personal experience how critically important it is that women have control over our own healthcare decisions,” Frazier said. “I almost died during my first labor. While I was being rushed into the OR, the doctor asked my husband who they should save if they had to make the choice. That is not a decision that should involve politicians. I’m thankful that both my child and I survived. And I’m thankful that my doctors were able to act without fear of prosecution by extremist, anti-choice politicians.”
Frazier is running against Republican Peter Oberacker. Oberacker has consistently voted against legislation that would stand up to extremist policies, protect women’s right to bodily autonomy, and ensure that women and doctors are safe from prosecution.
“The dangerous bills being passed around the country since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade harm women, families, and our country,” Frazier added. “New York is not immune to these attacks on women’s rights. We need fierce advocates for equality at every level of government, and we need to protect the women and doctors who are forced to leave other states to seek life-saving care in New York.”
Eleanor’s Legacy was founded in 2001 by Judith Hope, the first woman to lead the New York State Democratic Party. It is named after Eleanor Roosevelt, who lobbied for women’s rights, civil rights, and workers’ rights throughout her husband Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s presidency, and beyond.
